Did you become an entrepreneur at a young age?
I had a few failed attempts at entrepreneurship in my 20s. I didn’t properly start my first successful business until I was 33, married, with 3 kids and a day job, supporting my family entirely by myself.
What’s the weirdest or most surprising skill you possess?
I can have two conversations simultaneously in two different languages (English and Spanish.) Toggling back and forth between the two.
How have you found knowing your personality type to be helpful in your business?
Yes, extremely helpful. It allows me to harness my skills and hire for my weaknesses. It also helps us communicate better as a team when we understand our different personality profiles.
When were you the bravest?
When at 19 years old, my 1-year-old and I had nowhere to live. It forced me to learn the necessary skills to immediately get a roof over our heads and a fridge full of food.
What’s the strangest job you’ve ever had?
In high school, I was an interpreter for quadriplegic patients that were traveling to the small town in Argentina that I lived in for surgery, from the United States. We would drive all night on backcountry roads trying to not hit cows that were sleeping on the warm pavement.
What is your favorite business book, and why?
The Big Leap by Gay Hendricks. This is my favorite book because it completely changed my vision for what is possible (both in business and in my personal life) and it gave me a new understanding for how much of my results were truly within my control. I recommend it to all of my clients, my team, and everyone that will listen.
If you could have coffee with any business person (dead or alive), whom would you pick?
Describe your favorite setting for work: home, traditional office, coworking, coffee shop, or something else … and why?
I’ve tried all of them and occasionally when I feel like I need to mix it up I still do, but 99% of the time you’ll find me in my home office. I like the consistency in my surroundings and having everything I might need at my fingertips. I also love pajama pants.
Outside the U.S., what country or culture inspires you the most?
I would have to say France and Spain, because of their unapologetic prioritization of leisure. — About Sylvie: Sylvie McCracken helps health and wellness entrepreneurs who have gone off-course get refueled and back on track by teaching them to run their business like a well-oiled machine.
